NSW Home Saver Rebates:
Solar Hot Water Rebates NSW
Hot water system rebate - $300 to switch from electric to solar, heat pump or gas hot water systems
To be eligible for the rebate you must:
replace an existing electric hot water system
install the system in a residential property in NSW only
purchase the hot water system between 15 January 2010 and 30 June 2011
have the system installed by a licensed plumber.
Note: Those installing a gas instantaneous hot water system with a 5 star rating or more are also eligible to apply for the $150 rebate for the installation of a regulated or on demand hot water circulator.
Hot water systems installed to comply with BASIX (the Building Sustainability Index), for new homes and major renovations are not eligible for a rebate.
There is a limit of one hot water system rebate per property.
From 15 January 2010, the total amount of NSW Home Saver Rebates a household can receive must not exceed $1500 per property.
How much is the rebate?
- $300 for a gas hot water system with a 5 star or higher energy rating
- $300 for a solar or heat pump hot water system eligible for at least 20 Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) under the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET).
RECs are an electronic form of currency established to promote renewable energy generation. Your hot water system supplier will be able to provide more information about RECs.
How do I claim my rebate?
You apply for the rebate after the hot water system has been installed. You will need to:
- read and agree to the terms and conditions
- complete and sign the Hot Water System Rebate application form
- make sure your supplier and/or installer completes and signs the relevant sections of the application form
- attach a copy of the receipt(s) for the hot water system and
installation and completed form to:

You can elect to receive your rebate by direct deposit into your nominated bank account or posted to you by cheque.
Application forms for hot water systems installed between 1 October 2007 and 14 January 2010 must be received by DECCW no later than 5pm 30 April 2010
Rebate applications for hot water systems installed on or after 15 January 2010 must be received by DECCW within 6 months of the installation date or no later than 5pm 30 September 2011 (whichever is sooner). The installation date should be documented on the receipt(s) submitted with your application form. Applications received more than 6 months after installation or after 30 September 2011 (whichever is sooner) will not be eligible for a rebate.
