Swimming Pools, Ponds, Water Gardens, Aquaponics

There may be over 500,000 active swimming pools in Australia, many are fitted with sand filtration systems that require water wasting back wash's and very few pools are fitted with pool blankets which conserve heat and help slow water evaporation. The high number of sand filters in use and the lack of pool blankets contribute significantly to water usage, industry sources believe the average Australian pool could loose up to 75% of its volume per annum due to evaporation and maintenance issues.
As no research has been conducted in this state it is reasonably estimated that an average swimming pool looses about 30,000 litres of potable water per annum. These pools can be retrofitted with equipment such as cartridge filters and thermal blankets that massively reduce this consumption.
